Elevation

Elevations: I started to play around with saturation to see how the image could fit into a section.

Wooden pillars

To reflect on the Sustainability idea the pillars at the front of my model are made from different cut of logs stacked up with a steel pillar in the middle for support. I think it does a really good job of showing off recycled material, especially being at the front of the house.

Outdoor living area

With my idea of having privacy at the back, i wanted to create an outdoor area where people living in the house could go when they have guests around or even just on a daily basis to get some privacy, i though a bbq, spa and an outdoor dining table would fit perfectly into this space as the section does not have a huge are for running round.

Model

A quick mock up model of my house

Fencing

Fencing: I walked around a few areas to see what the fencing was like in between houses. I chose a number of random houses to assess these fences. It seemed that a large majority of houses had tall fences and/or large shrubs and trees blocking out any contact between neighbours. Out of all the randomly selected house i came across less than five smaller fences.

After seeing this I really wanted to make a living area at the back of the house where people could get their privacy, but then still have fencing at the front that allows them to interact with neighbours or people passing by.

Images: a selection of images of the fences i came across..

Materials

For my model i wanted to use as much recycled material as i could to increase sustainability and create a clean, more respectable environment. Three main materials i have chosen to use are Timber, concrete and Glass.

Timber:
An environmentally friendly material which can be reused for many products or even a housing structure. My model will consist of mostly timber, from framing to the walls.

Concrete:
A material made up of water and coarse granular materials such as crushed rocks and mixed into a hard glue-like mixture. Cement is a very structurally sound material and will be used in the foundation and surrounding paths of my model.

Glass: Having a very open plan means my model will consist of a lot of windows to give the indoor/outdoor feel, these window as in most houses will be made of glass, another recyclable material for my model.

Adjustments to house

For my word; "Apiti" I wanted to create a space where  there was privacy but also a connection to the neighbours houses. I have added a fence which gets smaller as it gets to the front as it gives privacy for the back of the house, and a friendlier and more interactive feel towards the front.

One of the Demographics in this particular area which i have chosen is the high crime rate. I have made a sloped driveway which drives under the house, this almost fully eliminated the chances of the house owners car being broken into and/or stolen.

Spatial Gesture

29 Fisk Street

My Spatial generator term 'Ä€piti' has potential to tie in well with the house at 29 Fisk Street. To 'place together' or 'supplement' would benefit this house not just with aesthetic value but the atmosphere of the whole space. I really want to make an indoor/outdoor feel to this house, making the base plan of the house smaller to allow more room for a deck or patio area with large glass sliding doors to create a the largest possible open feel for such a small house.
